More than a decade ago, we set out to find a way to mix oil and water into creams and lotions that would cause the least interference with the fragile skin ecosystem. The result was PAD™ Technology – a new method of mixing oil and water into creams – a new class of cream that is powerful and yet pure.
PAD™ Technology enables creams to be made with well characterized ingredients in the quantities needed. Nothing else.
PAD™ based creams are purer than any other creams and yet powerful enough to deliver essential ingredients through the skin barrier to release their full potential.
Traditionally, oil and water are combined with emulsifiers to bind them together. When high quantities of emulsifiers are used, it can cause a “wash out” of the skin’s own protective substances, such as the multilamellar lipids, when rinsed. Too much emulsifier can also cause stinging or burning in fissured or broken skin.
That’s why conventional creams and lotions may be less tolerated by patients with skin problems like eczema and psoriasis, or for patients with skin infections, that may make sensitive skin more prone to irritants as well as harmful microorganisms.
PAD™ Technology enables the mixing of oil and water into a cream using just a fraction of the emulsifier required in conventional creams and lotions. No wax is used. PAD™ Technology makes creams that patients can conveniently use in daily routines because they’re not sticky or uncomfortable.
The PAD based cream is so robust that it can be mixed with a high concentration (>80%) of alcohol, thereby enabling the world’s first cream/lotion based hand sanitizer (Biomee™ hand sanitizer lotion).

The internal oil phase is stabilized by encapsulation in a robust aqueous film, with a structure and composition that is very different from conventional emulsions. The robust oil droplet enables use of ingredients (e.g., solvents and various oils) in quantities and combinations that optimize solubility of active ingredients and penetration through the skin.
The PAD™ droplets are made with much lower (>10 times lower) amounts of surfactants than conventional emulsions. This is due to the inherent stability of the PAD™ oil droplet that eliminates the need of a large excess of surfactant in the external phase compared with conventional emulsions.
The oil content is lower in PAD™ formulations than in corresponding ointment or liquid oil formulations that have no water.
